Legal Information and Disclaimer
Despite the fact that certain so-called police officers don't seem to understand this, freedom of expression is still legal in the UK. It is a right enshrined in article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998 (still in force despite us leaving the EU) and article 19 of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.
As a member of Unite (the UK's largest trade union, which also has a community membership), I have free access to legal advice and will use the law if my rights are violated on behalf of Edge Hill University as a result of this website and a pathetic attempt to continue to prevent complaints about the University (which will in any case only serve to prove that the University has something to hide).
Notes on particular laws: Malicious Communications Act 1988 requires a message (or letter or electronic communication or article) to be 'grossly indecent or offensive' and requires the person sending it to be doing so for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety to the recipient or any other person to whom he intends that its contents or nature should be communicated. My purpose is none of that - my purpose in creating and publishing this website is to tell the stories of people - including vulnerable people - who have been harmed by Edge Hill University.
Protection from Harassment Act 1997 requires a course of conduct that the person knows or ought to know amounts to harassment of another. Firstly, a company is not a person. Secondly, it is not harassment to make true statements - it is reasonable in the circumstances, even if those statements are unfavourable to the company. Finally, as long as what is published is true (or honestly believed to be true), it is simply freedom of expression.
