About

This organisation was started to give a voice to victims of Edge Hill University - a University that was based originally in Edge Hill, Liverpool, before it was forced to move to Ormskirk, West Lancashire.

In 2017, the University had a completely illegal chilling effect clause in its rules. A chilling effect clause is a clause that prevents people from complaining or raising concerns. Edge Hill University's chilling effect clause stated:

'A student must not intentionally or recklessly use the name of the University or any of its members in oral, written or electronic form (including social networking sites, fora and blogs), in such a way that either by content or expression it brings the good name of the University into disrepute'.

Note that it even includes oral (verbal) communications, so people were not even allowed to say anything bad about the University in conversation.

In 2017, this clause was illegally used against a gay, gender-questioning disabled student because the student was alleged to have publicly complained about the University. Rather than have a recorded meeting to resolve the issues raised by the student, the University went on the attack and continued to bully the student, even going so far as to stop for a while (making it appear that things had calmed and resulting in the student feeling somewhat relieved) before suddenly starting up again. This pattern of stop-start harassment continued in such a "stop start" manner, significantly affecting the student's mental health.

The University sent illegal eviction notices, started disciplinary proceedings but wouldn't tell the student what the precise complaint actually was, skipped stages in the disciplinary proceedings, cancelled the student's ID card to force the student to go to the very people who were part of the harassment to ask them to reactivate it, closed a room early when the student was doing work, and even went as far as having a staff member stalk the student. When the student had to leave a room that the student was comfortable with, because of a pre-arranged event, several security guards were sent to intimidate the student despite the fact that the student had willingly left the room on previous occasions with no trouble when there were other events or the room had been booked.

The student discovered that other students had been mistreated by the University and wanted to do something. To those people, I'm sorry I wasn't able to help. The actions of Edge Hill University took a massive toll on my mental health and they even went to the extent of having me wrongfully arrested (the solicitor was so surprised at the kinds of nonsense the police were trying to use against me that he initially didn't even tell me what the consequences would be if I was convicted as he knew the Crown Prosecution Service wouldn't waste their time and the cops didn't have a leg to stand on). Although it resulted in no further action, the arrest took a toll on me - not helped by the fact that the University had already destroyed the friendship between myself and my closest friend.

But now, I'm trying to put things right. students who have already spoken to me include a girl with autism who was harassed by staff - including a note left publicly in her shared flat to embarrass her - and a girl who was threatened with being stabbed. Another girl was harassed by students, including her things being stolen and being subject to vile graffiti, and the University refused to help. She was forced to leave her course.

So if you've been a victim of Edge Hill University, please contact me and, with your consent, I will tell your story.
